Happy Birthday Driven By Boredom!

Driven By Boredom turned NINE yesterday and in the NYC Nightlife/ Party Scene that is like, 99.  I mean, what were you doing nine years ago? Nine years ago today I was gearing up to get my drivers license, wearing horrendous Steve Madden loafers with Guess Jeans everything, worked in a tanning salon, and had a fake ID saying I was 18 so I could get in to clubs in Philly.  Ugh. What a time.  Anyways….

Nate “Igor” Smith has been capturing the true essence of New York City before most people even lived here  – documenting late night debauchery, hot, naked, tatted chick in bathrooms, and the overall scene of downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn. Nate quotes on his site, “So 9 years ago DBB wasn’t a party photo blog.  I mean, I put lots of photos on it, and it was a blog, but not anything like it is now.  I mean blog wasn’t even a word then.  I get more traffic now than I did back then, but it seemed like my site was a lot bigger.  1500 viewers a day was a much greater percentage of people using the internet.  Everyone commented and spent a long time on the site and were invested in my life for no reason other than it was there.  Now everyone’s existence is a mini blog via twitter and facebook and everything and no one really cares. Still, I have managed to maintain a fan base, over a very long time and I love you all.”

This is the shit NYC dreams are made of.

You can catch DBB at Trash, Darkroom, Lit, Happy Endings, you get the picture… He will be throwing down for his Bday This Friday at TRASH! (Downstairs of Webster Hall)

Congratulations Nate and DBB.com for killing it and dominating the party pic scene for 9 years (in a time when there was no Facbeook, Myspace, Twitter, or even text messaging!)  Happy Birthday!

NightLIFE: Introducing The Kenmare

Kenmare Lounge

In the midst of fashion week hysteria, I missed the moment we have all been waiting for!   The Kenmare, the new restaurant and underground lounge brought to you by nightlife heavyweights, Beatrice Inn’s Paul Sevigny AND Rose Bar’s Nur Kahn *Double Whammy*, is unofficially open.   And although Sevigny told Grub Street,  “It’s not a new Beatrice… there’s never going to be a new Beatrice. We never planned for there to be a Beatrice. Beatrice is not a franchise.” I think it’s safe to say, Sevigny’s following will be following him to Kenmare, making it the “next Bea.”

The new Nolita hotspot played host to the after parties of Prabal Gurung and Proenza Schouler last (fashion) week, and will continue only host private parties for the next three weeks until it officially opens next month. *Be prepared to hear that anyway, even when it’s open.*

According to Urban Daddy, who got the first inside look, “It may look like any gilded, dimly lit speakeasy diner at first, but you’ll descend into a cavernous underground space decked with red leather banquettes and mottled stone columns that look like they were taken from an Egyptian tomb.”

Looks hot! I’m excited to go!!!

Video of the Day: Eklips Beat Box Champion

In the midst of Fashion Week hysteria, I actually had time to do some non-FW stuff! Yay!  I could’ve stayed at Capitale and held my breath until Fabulous took stage, but instead I went to The Box – for the second Valentine’s Day in a row – ugh.

Anyways, glad I did because I got to see Eklips – the dopest beatboxer I have ever seen.  He perfomed two sets – both about 15 minutes long and the crowd was hyped!!! The energy was unbelievable, everyone was dancing, cheering him on, and going “Oh shittttt” – most people couldn’t get over how sick and ridiculous the performance was- he sounded just like the real thing!

Eklips is from France and he is awesome. Check out this video of him from the Beat Box Championship Festival, it’s an interview with some added songs. The best is when he raps in french – haha! Hard to take hip-hop in French seriously but I can’t hate.  The second video is strictly beatbox.  Peep.
